The Dinner Run – cruise to a great dining establishment, mingle with your fellow scooterists and enjoy the ride.
Rumble X – Three State Ride
Pre-interstate roadways will take us from Menands, NY, through Vermont and Massachusetts, and back to New York’s Capital District. 112 miles through some of the most scenic backroads in the Northeast.
Getting out of the urban quagmire will take us over the Green Island Bridge that crosses the Mighty Hudson River. Green Island, at only .75 square miles, is the smallest town in New York. Its industrial history began with Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone camping and fishing on its shores!
The Green Island Bridge will land us in Troy, NY, an old industrial center with a newly bustling downtown filled with new bars, coffee shops, and hipsters. We will just wiz through part of it, but it’s worth a return trip!
From Troy we will head into rural territory on Rt 7 through Pittstown and Hoosick to the border of VT. Rt 7. The roadway from Troy to Hoosick was a public manor road laid in 1688, pre-interstate indeed!
Once in VT, back roads will take us through both the Henry and Silk Road covered bridges as we meander twice across the Walloomsac River.
Next, we’ll stop and take pics at the awesome Bennington Battle Monument which commemorates a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
From the Battle Monument we’ll head west on VT State Rt 9 through the town of Bennington, along hill and dale from farms to small towns, and across the Appalachion Trail.
We will make an abrupt right turn on Rt 8 south into the beautiful Green Mountain National Forest where hopefully we won’t encounter beaver, moose, coyotes, or black bears.
Hunger will be gripping by the time we leave the Green Mountain Forest and cross into Massachusetts. We’ll fuel up in North Adams and head east for three miles up the Mohawk Trail (Rt 2) to the Golden Eagle Restaurant at the great hairpin turn. We’ll lunch on the restaurant’s deck overlooking the valley.
Back down the mountain and east on Rt 2 will be a delightful ride through the villages and countryside of Massachusetts and over the Berkshire Mountains back into New York State.
The ride will be 112 miles. It will take the better of 6 hours including rest/photo stops, a fuel stop, and lunch. We will leave promptly at 9:30 a.m. from the Rumble gathering in Menands and arrive back at 3:30 p.m.
We will cruise secondary roads with speed limits up to 55 mph with some mountain ascents and mild curves. Scooters and other motorbikes of 150cc and above are welcome.
Rumble X – A Tale of Two Cities Ride
For those with smaller bikes (under 150cc) or people not interested in a long ride, a slower local ride exploring the historic cities of Albany and Troy NY is scheduled.
